I believe, if memory serves me right, Danica Patrick has one major career victory.

A friend is a NASCAR groupie and has been since the 1950s. He claims it’s because Patrick’s car is an unlucky color

It was an open wheel event in Japan.  Since coming to NASCAR, Patrick’s career has been one born of frustration.  Early after the move, other drivers were upset Patrick sewed up millions of dollars in endorsement deals they didn’t get.  In Patrick’s defense, she also brought a lot more attention to NASCAR.  Her driving record isn’t stellar, but it’s not wholly her fault.  She’s an accident magnet.

A friend is a NASCAR groupie and has been since the 1950s.  He claims it’s because Patrick’s car is an unlucky color.  I think a more reasonable explanation is where she’s usually driving.  In the middle of the field is a difficult place to navigate when a pile-up takes place.  On some of the circuit’s smaller tracks, when you’ve got 3 and a half dozen cars banging into each other, it’s not easy to finish a race.

Sadly, Patrick’s career will end without her getting the respect she may deserve.  It’s not easy driving 400 to 600 miles in normal conditions.  I drove across a continent in 3 days on an interstate where I had few other cars and trucks to contend with and it was exhausting.  Patrick is doing something with a woman’s physiology few men could achieve.  For several months every year, she does it on a weekly basis.  When she retires, her competitors, I believe, will have nothing but praise.
