Idaho Is the Third Fastest Growing State in the USA
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) Utah may have been the fastest growing state in the country, but Idaho saw considerable growth coming in third.
From the middle of 2015 to the middle of 2016 Idaho's population grew 1.8 percent. According to U.S. Census Bureau numbers, Idaho was 1.1 percentage point ahead of the national growth rate. During that time period the Gem state had 30,300 more people making it the strongest increase since 2008.
During the summer Idaho's population sat at 1,683,140. 90% of the states growth is thanks to a high birth rate and domestic migration. 19,000 people moved to Idaho from other states placing it fifth in all the nation. Idaho's birth rate is seventh highest in the U.S. with 13.7 births per thousand women.
Idaho's neighbor to the south, Utah, exceeded 3 million people and is the nation's fastest growing state. Nevada came in second followed by Idaho, Florida, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, District of Columbia and Texas. Many states east of the Mississippi lost people.
