
Does the Idaho Gadsden License Plate Represent Racism or Freedom?
Last year it was announced that Idaho was planning on offering a new license plate and the reactions were mixed.
Since then, there have been 2 other license plates announced that were received with more enthusiasm and less uproar.

I was just at the DMV where I learned that the plan to produce a Gadsden Flag license plate is still on the table, right next to a ‘plate’ of potatoes.
Idaho legislation has announced 2 new potato-themed license plates in House Bill 204 and the controversial Gadsden ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ license plate in Senate Bill 1105. The two potato plates are set to come out in 2025 and a petition is making the rounds to get the necessary signatures to make the Gadsden plate happen.
What Will the New Idaho Potato and Gadsden License Plates Look Like
The two new potato plates will be offered as a specialty black plate with white letters, similar to the one released in the 1950s, and a white plate with teal numbers.
The Gadsden license plate will be ‘bright yellow with a coiled rattlesnake in the center’. The words ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ will appear across the bottom of the plate.
Idaho Making Plans to Offer ‘Deeply Racist’ License Plate in 2025
While many are excited at the option of a new plate that represents ‘freedom’ others see the Gadsden design as a reminder of ‘racism’ in our country’s past.

While Idahoans debate the historical implications of allowing the Gadsden plate, the DMV is hard at work monitoring other offensive license plates from making it onto cars.
