Semi Truck Causes 7 Car Pileup on I-15 in Southern Idaho
Idaho State Police are investigating 2 separate accidents involving semi trucks over the weekend in Southern Idaho.
Both instances happened in Bingham County. In one accident the trailer being pulled by a semi-truck caught fire and in the second a semi hit multiple vehicles after failing to slow for traffic.
Semi Truck Collides With Multiple Vehicles on I-15 in Southern Idaho
ISP report that on July 12th, around 3:16 PM, they responded to multiple crashes on Interstate 15 at milepost 85 in Bingham County. The report states:
A 37-year-old male, from Blackfoot was driving northbound on I15 in a green 2017 Peterbilt semi-truck. The Peterbilt failed to yield to slowing traffic in the area and collided with the following vehicles: a 2024 BMW X3, driven by a 73-year-old male, from Pocatello, a silver 2023 Toyota RAV4, driven by a 50-year-old female from North Ogden, Utah.
The silver Toyota RAV4 was pushed into a blue 2024 Ford F250, driven by a 59-year-old male from Rigby, Idaho. The blue 2024 Ford F250 then collided with a Maroon 2022 Jeep Compass, driven by a 39-year-old female from Aberdeen, Idaho.
A black 2012 Audi A4, driven by a juvenile, collided with a green 2019 Toyota RAV4, driven by a 32-year-old male, from Vineyard, Utah.
Police report that all occupants were wearing seatbelts and only 2 people were transported to local hospitals. A passenger in the BMW and the driver of the silver RAV4 were each transported by ambulance. The accidents blocked northbound I15 for around 3 hours.
Semi Trailer Engulfed in Flames Blocks Highway in Southern Idaho
The second semi-truck accident also happened on I15 in Bingham County. The trailer fire happened on July 14th around 6:16 PM at milepost 102.
A 52-year-old male from Atlanta, GA was traveling southbound on I15…in a maroon 2019 Freight liner Semi. The 2019 Freight liner had mechanical failure and the trailer caught fire. The driver managed to detach the trailer from the power unit.
The incident is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
