Why Are These Specific Coolers Being Recalled in Idaho, Washington, and Utah

An essential summer product has been recalled, and various versions have been sold in Utah, Idaho, and Washington.

The recall is urgent due to the possibility of bodily damage, including ‘fingertip amputation, bone fractures, and lacerations’.

More Than 1 Million Coolers Recalled After Reports of Injuries

The Igloo brand name is synonymous with coolers, and many on the internet have wondered how dangerous a cooler can be that it would require a recall. The answer is ‘very dangerous’.

A variety of Igloo rolling coolers with towing handles have been recalled. The initial recall was issued in mid-February and expanded to more than 1.2 million coolers. The product comes in a variety of lid and body color combinations, shown below.

Why Are Igloo Coolers Being Recalled in Idaho, Washington, and Utah?

The recall states that ‘the tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards’. The recall extends across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

While the product being recalled is called ‘Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers’, there are dozens of model numbers and sub-names in the recall. Certain Latitude 90 Roller and Latitude 90 Roller Maxcold versions are included with different SKU# and date codes.

If your cooler is included in the Igloo recall, you are advised to stop using the cooler immediately until a free replacement handle is received and installed.

Igloo coolers are sold at Costco, Target, Dick’s, through online retailers, and many other locations. The recalled versions were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 at prices between $80 and $140. We first heard about the recall from Popcrush.
