ISP reported on the accident in a news release, sent out on Friday, May 1st, around 5:45 AM, with the first line of the report stating that the accident happened on Thursday, May 1st, so there is a discrepancy in the day of the week that the accident happened. The crash is no longer listed on the Idaho 511 app, and traffic is flowing normally now.
The Idaho State Police report shared the following about the accident:
- Two 37-year-old men from El Paso, Texas, were traveling eastbound on I84 in a 2025 International semi-truck hauling an empty 2008 Brenner tanker trailer.
- The semi left the roadway off the right shoulder and struck the guard rail and part of a concrete wall.
- The semi and trailer then crossed I84 and struck the north side of the overpass wall at N 950 E and caught fire, partially blocking the left lane.
Both occupants of the semi were able to escape with no injuries reported. The passenger was reportedly in the sleeper portion of the truck when the accident occurred.
Fire crews from multiple departments responded to the scene quickly and put out the fire. All eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway were temporarily closed while crews verified that the tanker was empty and not an additional threat. Brenner tankers are often used to haul liquid fuel and food-grade liquids.
