McCan Fire Grows and Threatens Homes

FAIRFIELD, Idaho (KTVB) -- Sporadic, constantly shifting winds and steep, inaccessible terrain are creating unique challenges for firefighters battling two lightning-sparked wildfires.

KTVB reports The larger of the two fires, the McCan Fire, is now estimated at about 5,000 acres, while the Beaver Creek Fire, burning north of Highway 20 in the Beaver Creek drainage is estimated at about 2,000 acres. The McCan Fire threatened Soldier Mountain Ski Resort and Soldier Mountain Ranch throughout the day Thursday.

Additionally, the fire has been burning dangerously close to cabins, homes, and outbuildings in the area. So far, no mandatory evacuations have been ordered and no structures have burned.
