No New Snake River Bridge For Now
Remember a few years ago when there was a lot of discussion about an additional bridge across the Snake River Canyon straight north of Highway 93 west of Twin Falls? There hasn’t been much public discussion of that proposed project lately. And the proposal has officially been dropped from consideration by the Idaho Transportation Department.
In a news release this week, the ITD said the construction of an additional bridge over the canyon between the Perrine Bridge and the Clear Lakes Bridge near Buhl is being dropped from consideration for now because those two current bridges, along with the Hansen Bridge east of Twin Falls can handle any traffic until 2030. Recent discussions among the ITD, area planning and zoning commissions and highway districts resulted in that decision by the ITD. The release said that “based on the community involvement for this proposal the ITD effectively concludes the effort to plan for a crossing at this time but it could resurface as future needs arise.
