Truck Driver Misses Stop Sign, 17 Cattle Killed in S. Blaine County
HAILEY, Idaho (KLIX)-A total of 17 cows were killed when a truck over-turned because the driver missed a stop sign Monday afternoon in Blaine County.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, Juan Deleon Alvarado, 31, of Idaho Falls, was driving a Kenworth cattle truck on Gannett Rd. and failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. Highway 20 at around 12:40 p.m. The truck skidded and the trailer toppled over, killing 15 animals and injuring two others that had to be later euthanized.
The sheriff's office said in a statement the estimated value of the lost cattle is about $15,000. The driver had been wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash. Deleon Alvarado was given a ticket for reckless driving.
