Wildfire Season Has Begun

The fire season is underway in Idaho. Crews battled two fires in Elmore County east of Boise last night.  The largest one was near Mountain Home along Airbase Road. As of 10:00 it had burned about 150 acres.  A helicopter attacked the fire from the air while Bureau of Land Management crews were on the ground. The fire was spread quickly because of windy conditions. Another fire has burned at least 30 acres in the Mayfield area on some BLM land north of Interstate 84 near the Ada-Elmore County line. It had been heading toward some homes, but firefighters say it was brought under control last evening. No word yet on how the fires started.
