Ballot Measure Would Reverse Small Town’s Liquor Law
MELBA, Idaho (AP) — A restaurant owner in southwestern Idaho is working to change his small town's strict liquor laws so he can sell cocktails by the glass.
Russel Gant, owner of Buck's Saloon and Steakhouse, tells the Idaho Press Tribune that he's gotten enough voter signatures to add a ballot initiative seeking to overturn the liquor ban for the Nov. 3 election.
Gant says his business has struggled to stay afloat after receiving complaints from weekend travelers unable to buy their preferred beverage.
Melba is a town of 500 people. That means under Idaho law, Melba would qualify for no more than two liquor licenses.
