City Moves Forward on Rec Center Discussion
(KLIX)-The ball is now in the Twin Falls City Councils court when it comes to a community recreation center. Monday night Recreation Center Committee member Chris Scholes made the recommendations to the council. The committee has worked for nearly two years to find out if there is a need for a rec center and possible ways to fund it. City council voted to start talking about the possibilities in their next strategic planning session. Scholes says they made the right move. The committee determined that there is certainly a need for a recreation center. It figured there are more than 300 community teams made up of all ages that need an indoor facility. Scholes says the first option to fund the project is through a joint venture with the Boys and Girls Club. Executive Director for the club Sam Fowler says they would like to reach more children and could use the space. The partnership could mean the city donates land to the Boys and Girls Club, which would then build and manage the facility. Fowler says it may take some time. He says the Boys and Girls Club building in Buhl has been in the making for ten years. But, he says other clubs have done similar projects with cities with great success across the country.
