Idaho’s Russ Fulcher is still a rookie by Washington standards.  He’s serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 1st District.  He replaced Raul Labrador who now chairs the state Republican Party.

During the lead-up to the votes on two Articles of Impeachment drawn against the President, many Republican members of the House loudly denounced the effort.  Unlike his fellow members of the GOP minority, Fulcher was a bit subdued.  O.K., much more subdued.  Sometimes the best rhetoric is subtle.  Fulcher delivered as you can see in the video below!

Republicans held firm in voting against impeachment.  Only three Democrats broke ranks (one of the three plans to become a Republican and another, Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has long argued the effort will harm her party).

I spent 17 years of my life reporting and managing news.  I host a local talk show.  You would think I would be transfixed by the hearings.  Not the case.  I was bored silly.  When a guy like me instead turns to the National Geographic Channel, you know someone in House leadership may have miscalculated.  Or as one of the deans of Washington journalism put it, the whole process has gone over like a lead balloon.

I did get some good news during the day.  The Christmas gifts I sent back east all arrived as intended.  The porch pirates didn’t spoil things for my family this year.  I’ve got to believe it’s where the focus is this time of year for most people.
