On Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Evel Knievel Family is hosting an even in Twin Falls to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Evel Knievel's legendary attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon. The event will feature a motorcycle parade, live music, and a chance to get up close to Knievel's original Skycycle.

The History of Evel Knievel's Famous Jump

In 1974, Evel Knievel attempted one of his most daring stunts: jumping the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls, Idaho. Knievel launched himself across the canyon in a steam-powered rocket dubbed the Skycycle. Despite his bold efforts, a malfunction in the parachute system caused the Skycycle to descend early, bringing him short of the opposite side of the canyon. Although the jump wasn’t successful, it cemented Knievel’s status as an American icon, known for pushing the limits of what was possible.

50th Anniversary Event on September 1, 2024

The 50th-anniversary celebration will be filled with activities to honor Knievel's legacy. The event kicks off with a motorcycle parade led by Robbie Maddison, a modern-day motorcycle legend, and six-time X Games gold medalist Colby Raha. The parade will start at the Valley Wide Country Store Crossroads near Perrine Bridge in Jerome at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at Koto Brewing in downtown Twin Falls.

In addition to the parade, attendees can enjoy live music from Krysten Knievel and The Knievel Daredevil Band, and see Evel’s original Skycycle on display. Fans will also have the chance to meet members of the Knievel family, Maddison, and Raha, and take photos with them. Autographs will be available as well.

Evel Knievel wasn’t the only daredevil to attempt the Snake River Canyon jump. In 2016, stuntman Eddie Braun successfully recreated Knievel’s historic jump using a replica of the original Skycycle.
