Twin Falls and the Magic Valley have needed another bridge for far too long, and while it looked like it would never happen, things are finally looking like they could come together. There are still plenty of unanswered questions and work to be done before it becomes a reality, but the possibility seems more real today than ever before. Some will argue that the area does not need another bridge, while others would welcome one sooner rather than later. With the news that a new bridge may be happening soon, here are the pros and cons of adding a new bridge to the Magic Valley.

Some will say a new bridge isn't worth the money, or that it won't be done in our lifetime, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be built. When there is a wreck or construction on the Perrine Bridge, the options are to either wait it out or go miles out of the way to get to the interstate or home if you live north of Twin Falls. It can be a hassle and everyone living in Twin has dealt with this at least once. Another bridge would allow for better traffic flow in and out of town, would give another option for those looking to cross the canyon, and would be a huge asset for those who live north of the canyon, but work in Twin Falls.

Bridges aren't cheap, and a new one could cost around 1 billion dollars, as well as it would take years to construct. Another issue is that it is no secret that there have been too many fatalities on the Perrine Bridge over the years, and adding another bridge gives the possibility that more could occur. While this is a justified fear, it is a danger no matter if there are ten bridges or one. There are those that have lived in the Magic Valley for most of their lives that would prefer to keep the traffic to one area, instead of having more busy streets. A new bridge would also take away a little of the shine from the Perrine Bridge, but that is of little concern.
