It has been amazing weather the last few days in southwest Idaho. We are almost halfway through December, ten days from the official start to winter, and two weeks away from Christmas, but it feels like spring in many parts of Idaho.

While you may have been enjoying the extremely mild weather, it is bringing an unwanted side effect: air stagnation.

It’s Been Beautiful in Southwest Idaho, But Here’s Why You Might Not Want to Go Outside

With 60-degree days and minimal wind in southwest Idaho, the air isn’t moving, and that could be bad for people with existing health conditions. An air stagnation advisory has been issued through the weekend, affecting cities across Southern Idaho. Boise, Twin Falls, and cities around them are under the advisory.

The air stagnation is set to begin on Friday morning at 5 AM and expire on Monday morning at 5 AM.

The air stagnation will be caused by an inversion with very little wind, trapping pollutants near the surface. People with respiratory illness or compromised systems should limit time outdoors, which might be hard since the temperatures and overall weather conditions (besides the stagnant air) are going to be sunny and mid 50s to near 60 each day over the weekend.
