The Best Thing You’ll See at Idaho’s Shoshone Falls Right Now Isn’t the Waterfall
I love boating and kayaking in the water running through the Snake River Canyon in Southern Idaho. Except right now it’s freezing cold, which makes the topic of this story extra impressive.
I was walking along the Canyon Rim Trail above the Shoshone Falls, before the temperatures dropped and the fog rolled in, and saw a cute message on an island in the canyon. Of course, after I realized what it said, I had to find out the answer to the question.
Message Written on Island in Snake River Canyon Left People Wondering
To see the message, I had to hike from the Shoshone Falls past the second lookout to a section of the trail with colorful painted fence posts. I don’t know why they are painted like a box of crayons, but they are. A little past the posts, you can get a good view of the small island and the message written in white stones on it.
I don’t know if the person swam to the island, took a kayak, or flew in a helicopter, but the message is clear: Marry Me Jess.
I guess, technically, it isn’t a question; it’s a statement, but it left us with a question. Was it a marriage proposal, and did Jess say yes?
Luckily, there are no secrets on the internet, and thanks to a comment on Facebook, we found out that Jess did, in fact, say yes, and Kelly Fairbanks was the one asking the question.
Congrats to the couple! Now that we know who they are, you can send them gifts and congratulations, too.

Just because the Shoshone Falls are sad right now, with no water going over, doesn’t mean there aren’t things to see in the canyon. When the water seeping through the canyon walls freezes, it wakes some of the coolest icicles and formations.
