TWIN FALLS, Id. (KMVT-KSVT) A longtime Twin Falls County resident is officially throwing his hat in the ring for next year's county commissioner election.

Jack Johnson held a press conference Friday afternoon to announce his candidacy for the District 3 seat.

Johnson says after speaking with numerous residents and businesses and receiving positive feedback, he knows he can serve Twin Falls County in a professional manner.

We caught up with Johnson after his announcement.

"Thank you for letting me serve the public and the citizens of Idaho for 30 years. I ask for your vote come May of 2016 in the Republican Primary. I believe we need strong leaders in office, not just at the national level but our local and I look forward to serving our community with some new ideas and different approaches to the way we do things," said Jack Johnson.

The District 3 Seat, which represents the Murtaugh and Hansen region, is currently held by Commissioner George Urie.
