Legit Way to See if Someone Owes You Money in Idaho
As we head into the season of last-minute Christmas shopping, who couldn’t use an extra bit of cash right now? While there’s no guarantee, there’s a decent chance that somewhere, someone owes you money and there’s a perfectly legit way to find out by using this resource from the state of Idaho.
Who owes you money?
It can be several things, really. It’s been my experience that it’s usually something that slips through the cracks. Maybe you overpaid on a final loan installment, or some last-minute corrections were made to your taxes in your favor that you haven’t collected. Perhaps you overpaid for a medical cost that finally cleared insurance. In any case, there’s a really easy way to find out.
Where to find out if you are owed money
The Idaho State Treasurer’s office has a website where you can do some easy recon to see if you are owed money.
You just go to https://yourmoney.idaho.gov. From there, you enter in some basic information to see if there’s any unclaimed money that’s yours for the taking.
Start by entering in your last name or if you own a business, you can search that too. Then, narrow things down by searching your first name, city, and zip code. Once you do that, you get instant results on your unclaimed property status. Simply click the ‘claim’ button and follow the prompts to get the ball rolling.
Pro Tip
When you search by last name, try leaving out your first name to see if any relatives are owed money. I didn’t get squat this time around, but I noticed my daughter was owed a whole dollar from her state taxes and my dad has unclaimed money to the tune of $100.00.
You can search for unclaimed property held by other states
It’s worth noting that this site is only searching for funds owed to you in the state of Idaho. If you want to search other states for unclaimed property, you can go through a similar process at FindMyFunds.com
