Magic Reservoir Toxin Levels Safe as Health Advisory is Lifted

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-A health advisory for a Magic Valley reservoir has been lifted by southern Idaho health officials.

South Central Public Health District and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality announced Thursday morning the public health advisory for Magic Reservoir was lifted after tests showed micro-toxins are at safe levels. However, the advisories for Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir, Mormon Reservoir and Thorn Creek Reservoir are still in effect for harmful algal blooms.

In a prepared statement SCPHD Public Health Program Manager Josh Jensen said, “Even though the health advisory is lifted for Magic Reservoir, water users should still be observant and careful in and around areas where algal blooms are still present.”

Cooler temperatures usually contribute to the shrinking of the algal blooms, according to the Health District. The two agencies will announced when the toxic levels for the three other reservoirs are safe once again. The algal blooms can be especially harmful to pets and other animals.
