My family had a Perry Como Christmas album where the singing barber belted out an upbeat number called Happy Holidays.

Somehow the lyrics to a decades old song don’t appear to me to be a part of the War-on-Christmas.

Growing up it appeared interchangeable with Merry Christmas.  Now, I feel guilty when I repeat Como’s words.  Somehow, the lyrics to a decades old song don’t appear to me to be a part of the War-on-Christmas.

While I believe there are many secularists who are nothing more than killjoys attempting to stamp out the holiday, I shouldn’t be ostracized when I use the Como form.  I think the people who demand we say only Merry Christmas are no better than the secularists.  They’re often joyless themselves or so it seems.  Maybe the folks over at the ACLU, Democrat Party and the University aren’t the only people missing the message of the season.  It isn’t one of misery, that’s for sure.
