PRESTON, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in eastern Idaho say law enforcement officers shot and killed a man who threatened them with a knife.

The Preston Police Department says the shooting occurred Tuesday evening outside a grocery store in the small town of Preston.

The Pocatello Police Department is leading an investigation by local law enforcement agencies into the shooting.

Pocatello police say officers with the Preston Police Department and deputies with the Franklin County sheriff’s office responded at about 8:30 p.m. to a report of a suspicious man at the store.

Police report that officers escorted the man outside where he pulled a knife and was shot after a Taser failed to subdue him.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.

Preston is where the 2004 teen cult classic film "Napoleon Dynamite" was set.
