Re-Opening of Idaho Falls Mormon Temple Delayed
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Mormon church officials say the reopening of the temple in Idaho Falls will be delayed by several months because of unexpected construction issues.
The Post Register reports The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' temple was closed in March 2015 for a $26 million interior overhaul, and was originally expected to reopen at the start of 2017. But Doug Nelson with the Greater Idaho Falls LDS Public Affairs Council told the newspaper that asbestos and other unexpected issues have caused delays.
Nelson said a new reopening date will be announced sometime in the next few weeks. The church will also have an open house schedule, where non-Mormons can see the inside of the temple before it is rededicated and closed to the general public.
