A couple of years ago I read an alarming statistic.  Within 15 years 90% of all jobs in America will be automated.  Throughout history fears of automation have been tempered by new jobs required for fixing the new machines.

I don’t believe most of us are ready and I’m not sure the economy can absorb armies of wandering unemployed.

Now, however, the fear is the changes will be so rapid a great many people will be left without job prospects for decades to come.  Some of the changes have roots here in Idaho.  If nothing else farming robots may eliminate migrant workers.

In more than half the states in the country the number one job is truck driving.  The need for drivers may evaporate quickly and especially where trucks drive in hazardous conditions.

What do you think?  Are you prepared for the new economy?
