Section of I-84 Closed Due to Wildfire
UPDATE: Interstate 84 reopened Tuesday after 5 p.m., and as of 9 p.m. the fire had burned roughly 3,000 acres.
BURLEY, Idaho (KLIX) – If you plan to travel to Utah anytime soon, you’ll have to detour to Interstate 15 in eastern Idaho due to a 50-mile closure of Interstate 84.
I-84 is closed in both directions from the I-86 junction to the Utah border due to a large wildfire in the area.
All I-84 traffic should detour to I-15 or to U.S. 93 south of Twin Falls to I-80 at Wells, Nev., according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
No cause of the fire, which started Monday near mile post 271, has yet been determined, said BLM spokeswoman Kelsey Brizendine. Crews were having a tough battling the blaze Tuesday afternoon due to wind in the area, making the fire "very active," she said.
No structures have been threatened by the fire, she said, and no containment or control times have yet been given.
