‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Unleashes New Footage in Special TV Preview
If you didn’t tune into ABC’s TGIT tonight to catch the debut of the new preview for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then you’re in luck — the footage has arrived online, and although it features some familiar sequences re-edited in a different order, there are a couple of new pieces of footage we haven’t seen before, including the return of Admiral Ackbar!
We can officially dub this week Star Wars Week, with Lucasfilm and Disney dropping lots of images, a couple of TV spots and intriguing intel on the highly-anticipated new installment in the franchise. There’s not much that’s new-new here, but there are some excellent moments between Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn, as well as a scene with Rey and Han Solo, who insists that she’ll need that lightsaber for whatever it is she’s about to do.
And there are a couple of great action shots, including a new one of Finn mid-battle with a First Order Stormtrooper. As we learned over the last couple of days, Finn has been raised since childhood in the First Order, which uses its pro-Empire propaganda to teach its soldiers from an early age that Luke Skywalker is a villain, while most people in the galaxies (like Rey) believe Luke, Leia and Han are mere myth.
We’re not likely to see much — if any — new footage in the weeks to come, but that’s okay because Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18.
