The Boy Scouts Rocked by a Mormon Decision
You can’t separate the Boy Scouts of America from culture.
This week the LDS Church dropped a bombshell and the blast wave will rock scouting.
Norman Rockwell painted them at parades. Many of us have scouting experience. Not all that long ago, it was considered a right-of-passage and even today an argument can be made participation builds character. Scouting teaches practical skills, manners and courage and, yet.
Scouting has changed with alterations in cultural norms. Girls who believe they’re actually boys are gaining entrance in some troops. While some sponsors have been granted waivers, scouting has also dropped prohibitions on homosexual men as Scout Masters. Not that they didn’t exist in the past, but they couldn’t be public about their lifestyles.
This week, the LDS Church dropped a bombshell and the blast wave will rock scouting. While not citing the new mores, older Scouts will now be enrolled in a competing Mormon organization. The LDS is, for now, not dropping sponsorship of Cub Scouts. You can hear reaction from Top Story below.
