When KTVB ran a story on our Idaho Cities Song a few months ago, we were overjoyed.

If you missed that, here's the full video.

Naturally, as anyone in our shoes would, we followed up by asking ourselves the following question:

What do you get when you cross a brief history of Idaho, REM's "It's the End of the World", and a ridiculous subplot about peeling potatoes?

This. The History of Idaho Song.

It's 100% #idahopride -- what an amazing state we live in! It's underrated, full of secrets, and absolutely gorgeous.

Come peel mine?

Lyrics:

That’s great it starts with an excavation
Near the Wilson Butte Cave
And tribes in Nez Perce and Coeur d’Alene

Findings of arrowheads, humans were in Idaho
Fourteen thousand five hundred, short, short years ago
Then Meriwether Lewis and Lieutenant William Clark
Expeditioned on a mission, to the region they embarked
Then William Price Hunt and the Snake River
Navigation laid the foundation for the fur trade vocation

The Reverend Henry Spalding told the Natives in Lapwai to con. vert. now.
He printed books and made a school and irrigation, grew our first
Potatoes. It’s. His. Fault.
Uh-oh, rivers flow, boats going to and fro
Save yourself, serve yourself, Idaho got split up into
Two sides, north and south, the California gold rush and word of mouth and tons of money sweet
as treats from Easter bunny
Periodic, hyperbolic, catastrophic, workaholic feeling pretty psyched

This is our Idaho as we know it
This is our Idaho as we know it
This is our Idaho as we know it
This is our Idaho as we know it
And come peel mine

President Abraham, a thinkin’ Lincoln made in all its glory
Parts of land into Idaho Territory, and
Harrison president-ing, pen-signing, state-making
Governor appointing, it’s George Shoup winky winking
Years of mining, mining, mining, then declining clining clining
Farms, ag, irrigation, vegetation, jubilation
Towns and cities soon take flight, fallout from the test site
Unfortunate, unfortunate, unfortunate skies
Geothermal water, birthplace of TV, and a Pulitzer prize

This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
And come peel mine

The other night I dreamt a scene, 1891 I mean
Designing from New York it seems, Emma Edwards Green
The only seal, the only great, seal in these United States
Designed by a female, now drop the mic, boom
Esto Perpetua, let it be eternal, right? Right.

This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
This is our Idaho as we know it (it’s time I had a potato)
And come peel mine
