Water Districts Begin Aquifer Recharge
Another round of water recharge has been approved to help replenish the Snake River Plain Aquifer. The Idaho Water Resource Board met last week and approved nearly $133,000 to fund over 44,000 acre-feet of recharge.
This is the second recharge effort the board has approved this year. All recharge this fall will occur below American Falls Reservoir. This spring helped create a good water supply, but funds to finance the recharge are limited. The Idaho Ground Water Appropriators contributed $80,000 to help fund more recharge sites but there is not enough money to recharge all of the water that is available. The Big Wood Canal Co., North Side Canal Co. and Southwest Irrigation District have all agreed to participate in this fall’s recharge which will continue throughout December.
