Gov. Otter Signs Public School Funding Bill

(AP) - Idaho Gov. "Butch" Otter has signed a 2013 funding plan for public schools that includes funds for the state's new education reforms, including merit pay bonuses and laptops. The budget includes $1.27 billion in state general funding, a $56 million bump over the current fiscal year. That's a 4.6 percent boost in state support, but the overall increase is much smaller at 0.4 percent when including federal funding.

Idaho Legislators Grapple Over Extra Money

The legislative session is just about to wrap up but lawmakers are grappling with an issue they haven’t dealt with in a few years, a budget surplus and how to disperse surplus state money. Republican Senator Dean Cameron, the Chairman of the Joint Finance Appropriations Committee says at the end of the session the state will have about $77 million dollars that they need to decide what to do with.

Magic Valley United Way Hands Out Money

The United Way of South Central Idaho was handing out money yesterday.  Tuesday was the organization’s annual allocation meeting handing out over $100,000 dollars to local service organizations.  Out of those receiving money this year, the Jerome Senior Center received $2000 and the Silver Sage Girl Scouts received $4100 dollars.
