TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-Investigators have been able to determine what may have caused a boat to sink at Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir that killed one man and sent another to the hospital last Friday.

According to Lt. Daron Brown with the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office, the exhaust manifold blew apart and left a five inch in diameter hole in the boat, which caused it to fill quickly with water. The survivor, Jim Wilson, confirmed he had heard a bang and water began to filled the boat before calling emergency crews on Friday, Nov. 1; 80-year-old Dr. Eugene Holm, of Heyburn, died in the accident.

Twin Falls and Cassia county teams returned to the reservoir Tuesday to recover the boat. Three boats and 18 people, including five divers, worked for about ten hours to bring the boat to the surface and out of the water. Crews used a combination of air-lift bags to bring the boat up and pulled it to shore.
