Burley Man Allegedly Told Child to Stab Mother, Charges Filed
BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Police are charging a Burley man with multiple felony charges after a fight and possible stabbing on Thanksgiving Day.
David James Gifford faces felony charges of domestic battery and child endangerment. He is also facing an attempted strangulation charge. Gifford has pleaded not guilty to all of those charges.
Court documents say that Gifford had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend early in the day. He then left, but returned later.
That's when police say he resumed fighting with his girlfriend and it turned physical. Court documents say he punched, kicked and choked her.
Police say he then got knives and started telling the woman's two year old son to stab her. According to the arrest affidavit the woman told police Gifford told her "...he was going to have her sun kill her."
The affidavit says the woman's son stabbed her twice. Police saw puncture marks on her shoulder when they arrived. Gifford initially fled the scene, but was later arrested.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22.
