Rigby, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Reduced visibility caused by blowing dust has closed Interstate 15 between Idaho Falls and Roberts. The Idaho Department of Transportation said that I-15 is closed from milepost 119 to 135 at 10:09 a.m. today Monday, March 17.

Northbound traffic is being detoured from I-15 to U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls and then from U.S. 20 in Rigby to Idaho 48, which runs to Roberts and I-15.

Southbound traffic is being detoured from I-15 to Idaho 48 in Roberts and from Idaho 48 to U.S. 20 in Rigby, then south to I-15 in Idaho Falls.

The transportation department estimates the interstate will reopen this evening, when the wind is expected to subside. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning: "Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph will continue through about noon before becoming west-northwest and decreasing slightly to 25 to 35 mph and continuing through 6 p.m."

Motorists should drive with extreme care and observe traffic signs and signals. High winds create highly dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are encouraged to visit 511.idaho.gov or call 5-1-1 for the latest highway conditions.
