TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Don’t be deceived by a scammer.

That’s the message Idaho Power is giving its customers.

Stay vigilant. Fraudulent individuals are persistent in their efforts to scam utility customers, according to information released by the company. These scammers change their tactics often as they try to dupe unsuspecting victims.

The company says tactics used by scammers include phony pop-up ads, threatening phone calls, fraudulent job postings, requests for immediate payment and other scams using the Idaho Power name.

One of the more popular scams is callers demanding immediate payment and threatening termination of service. Some scams target restaurant owners and Spanish-speaking customers.

The company cautions customers to avoid disclosing personal information to anyone claiming to be from Idaho Power. If an account becomes delinquent, the company follows a process of multiple written notices prior to service disconnection.

“Customers are cautioned to avoid disclosing any personal information to someone claiming to be from Idaho Power,” the information reads. “If an account does become delinquent, the company follows a process of multiple written notices prior to service disconnection.”
