Medical Marijuana is a Serious Threat to Public Health

By this time next year, Idaho will be on its way to legalized medical marijuana.  I fully expect it.  Petitions are being passed to get it on the November 2020 statewide ballot.  Many people believe it provides relief for pain and cancer patients, although.  Science hasn’t yet offered concrete evidence. 

Medical marijuana will result in recreational marijuana.  You simply can’t control who smokes it in a household if each family member is allowed 6 plants for treatment of someone sick in the household.  Many backers of the ballot measure know this and are winking as they make the argument for passage.

Conservative writer Peter Hitchens claims were being sold a bill of goods on pot.  Writing in the Spectator, he makes a compelling argument mass shootings could be tied to psychosis caused by heavy marijuana use.

Americans have had access to guns from the start of the colonial era.  Mass shootings didn’t become a cultural scourge until the 1960s.  The same time popular entertainers and musicians began promoting drug use.  Nothing makes your local neighborhood pot pusher or dope smoker angrier than someone questioning their integrity or their argument.  The claim that says there is no harmful impact from use.

I think they got their facts from Doctors Cheech and Chong.  Serious medical research provides a much more sorrowful tale.  Brain damage.  Irreversible brain damage.

Why are we having this discussion?  To benefit someone selling poison?  Because you can’t accept reality and need to dull the world around you?

And now we have 55 members of the House of Representatives (54 are Democrats) sponsoring a bill for nationwide legalization.  I’m not sure it will pass anytime soon but the public relations effort doesn’t speak well for the future.
