Nevada Horse Roundup On “Hold”

The Bureau of Land Management has agreed to postpone a major wild horse roundup in eastern Nevada until a federal judge in Reno can consider a mustang protection group's request next week for a court order to block the gather.  Lawyers for the Colorado-based Cloud Foundation are scheduled to go before U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben July 14 in search of an emergency injunction to halt the roundup of 1,700 horses near the Utah border about 70 miles southeast of Elko.  BLM says the overpopulated herd is damaging the land, but attorney Rachel Fazio says the agency hasn't proved that.  The gather was to begin Thursday but BLM spokesman Chris Hanefeld in Ely says they voluntarily agreed to the delay. If BLM prevails, he says the roundup starts July 16.
