Rupert, Idaho’s Eternal War Memorial
A flag is always at half-staff in Rupert.
It wasn’t easy creating the memorial.
It’s just one of two communities in the United States with the distinction. The other is located in Texas. It wasn’t easy creating the memorial. There were complaints because the monument violated flag etiquette. For lack of a better word, a dispensation was granted. Then, State Senator Dean Cameron worked with Governor “Butch” Otter and he gave his support. Now, the flag flies eternally at half-staff and honors Idaho’s war dead. This Memorial Day weekend, the site will be an important stop for those looking to remember and pray.
