JEROME, Idaho (KLIX) – Southern Idaho Regional Communications – better known as SIRCOMM – is seeking qualified applicants for a position in its emergency dispatch center.

He knows they're out there, but SIRCOMM Director John Moore says not many qualified people have applied for the position. He'd like to see more.

Duties of the Emergency Communications Dispatcher, according to Moore, include answering emergency and non-emergency phone calls, dispatching emergency responders using computer software and radio technology, and providing pre-arrival medical instructions, among other tasks.

Before you apply, make sure you fit the bill.

Qualified applicants must be no younger than 19 years old, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have proficient typing skills, and possess a familiarity with local geography.

You think you qualify?

It’s a benefited positon that starts at $16.52 an hour, Moore said – but you first have to take some tests.

Besides being invited to an interview, qualified applicants must be willing to take a skills test; submit to a background check; undergo drug, hearing and vision screenings; and take a polygraph test.
