The massacre of the LeBaron family in Mexico hits close to home.  Family relatives live in Twin Falls.  Additionally, one of my co-workers tells me his father grew up near where the attack took place.  When his dad returned recently for a visit, he was warned to stay off a road controlled by the drug cartel.

If Mexico is on the brink of collapse, then war may be coming to our border no matter the wishes of the pacifists.

Some are implying the attack by the cartel was a case of mistaken identity.  The drug dealers saw large SUVs and may have believed rivals or the Mexican government had plans for an attack.  Drug dealers recently defeated a Mexican military unit in a firefight.  It’s possible the family made a wrong turn and found unexpected trouble.

The Pentagon believes Mexico is on the verge of becoming a failed state.  The country’s President is cautioning against a strike on the cartel.  It may lead to his ouster.  He may not find a method for placating President Trump.

Neville Chamberlain is said to have told Winston Churchill Britain wasn’t ready for war with Germany.  “War doesn’t wait until you are ready,” is an approximation of Churchill’s response.

Mexico isn’t the only teetering regime in the vast area known as Latin America.  If nation’s start falling like dominoes we’ll be looking at a refugee crisis like nothing ever seen before in North America.  The Dustbowl days will pale when compared.

In the meantime, regimes in Iran and China may see an opportunity to challenge a distracted United States.  The Chinese have a character for danger which is also a symbol for opportunity.
