Twin Falls County Fair Plans Events, Celebrates 100 Years

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – We’re well into summer and that means it is fair season. It also means a big celebration for the Twin Falls County Fair. The fair turns 100 this year.

Members of local media attended a press luncheon at the Twin Falls Fairgrounds on Tuesday, where they were updated about this year’s county fair and some of its attractions.

For starters, a $15,000 fireworks show will be held the night of Aug. 31, after the Monster Truck Tour. The fireworks help celebrate the century-old county fair.

Want to ride in a monster truck? You can do that from 5:30 to 7 p.m. or after the truck events.

Popular hypnotist Michael Mezmer will perform on the free stage; and comedian Jeff Martin will stroll through the fairgrounds daily with the goal of making people laugh. Freddie Prez will host “Crazy Contests and Activities.”

There also will be the usual attractions – carnival, food vendors, petting zoo, animal and craft exhibits.

Traffic flow exiting the parking area will be better managed, said Fair Manager John Pitz, thanks to a new exit that puts drivers onto Wildcat Way. There also is a new gate at the lot’s entrance off Highway 30. Once inside the fairgrounds, there’s a new restroom and family facility.

Dan Carter addressed press members on Tuesday, explaining about the Gold Buckle Club, whose mission is to support the rodeo and, when possible, donate to local charities. Membership in the club is $2,000 the first year and $1,000 each year thereafter.

Carter explained it as a VIP buy-in. Among other things, members receive a gold belt buckle.

The club currently has 16 members, he said. It also is looking into a reciprocal agreement with 12 other clubs in different states so that members can, when in their areas, attend functions at other clubs.

The club’s main focus is to promote a location attraction: “We’re going to all we can for the rodeo,” he said.

The Magic Valley Stampede PRCA Rodeo will start at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1.

Pitz said fairgoers can purchase their tickets online, where you also can view a map of the fairgrounds and take a peek at the fair schedule.

The Twin Falls County Fair runs Aug. 31 through Sept. 5. Other upcoming county fairs in the Magic Valley include:
