The 2020 Idaho Potato Drop New Year's celebration in Boise had fireworks, colorful lasers, food, a ski jump contest, and warm beverages. It was a virtual rager.

Last year's Idaho Potato Drop had everything except live human beings partying as they had grown accustomed to since the event began in 2013. Although crowds gathered nearby, the festivities were streamed on television and online from an undisclosed location due to the pandemic.

Although the Coronavirus hasn't gone away, and yet another variant is sickening people across the state of Idaho, this year's potato drop will resemble those in past years. Idahoans will be allowed to gather at the traditional location of the event on Jefferson Street, in front of the capitol building, for live music, food, games, shopping, warm drinks, and the fireworks that coincide with the lowering of the nearly 20-foot fake spud.

The 9th annual celebration will get underway at 6:00 P.M. For the full list of events and all other information regarding this year's festivities, click here.

The 2021 Idaho Potato Drop will also see the return of the Urban Air Ski & Snowboard competition, VIP seating including appetizers and cocktails, live music, raffles, and photo opportunities with Spuddy Buddy.

There will be Covid-19 health screenings where proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours will be mandatory. These checks will begin at noon at the corner 8th Street and Bannock. Masks will also be required.

The 2021 Idaho Potato Drop gets underway in just 22 days!
