BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Caldwell man who tried to purchase a shotgun from an acquaintance was shot after the transaction went awry.

The Idaho Statesman reports 28-year-old Juan Lopez was arrested Thursday in connection with the Nov. 8 incident. He faces charges of aggravated battery and use of a firearm during a felony.

Court documents say the victim, who was recovering at a hospital Nov. 10, told an investigator that he agreed to buy the 12-guage shotgun for $300.

Lopez was allegedly with a woman and another man when he visited the victim's home for the sale.

Details of the transaction remain sketchy, but documents say an argument broke out at some point and the woman claims she was pushed down the stairs.

The victim was reportedly shot three times.
