The incident, which occurred Sunday at the Boice Cope County Park about four miles north of Cape Blanco, Ore., involved a 31-year-old man named Jayson Dean Thomas and his 3-year-old son. The pair was walking along the beach when a wave struck, pulling them out to sea.
The Coast Guard searched 112 square miles for more than 22 hours, according to Fox 12, covering 583 total miles in an effort to locate the father and son. Oregon State Police also searched the beach area on Sunday and part of Monday.
