In the reveal event for the new Tesla Roadster, the future of driving was questioned. Elon Musk and his team of engineers have taken ideas from movies and our dreams and made them reality.

For real, the new Roadster has features that make me think the team took all the ideas from every movie and kindergarten drawing ever made and created the coolest features science would allow. Then, they said, we don’t need science, and added a few more features to the car. There was also mention of the car being able to jump the Snake River Canyon in Southern Idaho.

During the Tesla Roadster Reveal, Idaho Got a Solid Shout Out

Elon Musk starts off the presentation by saying, ’Alright, you’re going to see some crazy stuff tonight.’ He then goes on to explain that the new car is a collaboration between the world’s best car company (obviously referring to Tesla) and the world’s best rocket company (cleary talking about SpaceX). He does say that the car is like nothing you’ve seen in a movie and it’s better than any James Bond car.

The car has impressive and exciting features, like the ability to fly without wings, do a sub-1-second 0 to 60 mile per hour run, a top speed near 380 MPH at half the speed of sound (Mach 0.5), and fan suction that allows it to cling to walls and ceilings, though the real-world application is for traction at high speeds.

Could the New Tesla Roadster Come to Idaho to Jump the Snake River Canyon

But one of the most intriguing things said in the presentation was the comparison of the Roadster’s flying capabilities to the attempted Evel Knievel jump across the Snake River Canyon. You can see that mention and conversation at the 20-minute mark of the video.

I don’t think I have the clout to ask them to really do that, and I don’t know how serious they really were. But that would be awesome, and he does say ‘let’s give it another shot.’

Could We See the New Tesla Roadster in Idaho

The reveal video is clearly live, and clearly awkward, so I’d recommend finding a follow-up video from a social media team like CarWow or Hagerty to make the presentation less cringe.

There is a real possibility that we could see one of the Roadsters in Idaho at some point, even if it isn’t to jump the Canyon. During the presentation, there were several mentions of this car being a vehicle that people would be able to buy as early as 2028.
