New Year's Eve is exactly three weeks from today. One of the most popular area parties happens every year in an Idaho city 40 miles east of Twin Falls that has earned the nickname "Christmas City, USA."

City officials in Rupert are gearing up for the annual New Year's Eve Beet Drop celebration. As in past years, the event will include live music, family entertainment, snacks, a beer garden, master of ceremonies, the lowering of the beloved, artificial plant starting at 11:59 P.M., and the firework finale. Rupert is located in Minidoka County, and is nine miles northeast of Burley.

Rupert is a city of just under 6,000 people, and every year the majority of them gather at the city square to ring in the new year together. Area businesses such as Amalgamated Sugar, Valleywide Cooperative, and D.L. Evans Bank sponsor the evening's entertainment. Rupert is also known for its impressive Christmas decorations that attract many each December.

Music will get underway on Friday, December 31 at 7:00 P.M. Musicians appearing at this year's beet drop include Jonathan McEuen, Barton & Bollar, Devon Tyler and DJ Tanner. The fireworks will begin at the stroke of midnight.

The city's historic Wilson Theatre has been gearing up for the holiday season with recent showings of the holiday classic, It's a Wonderful Life. The Wilson Youth Symphony Chorus is performing tonight at 7:30 P.M. as well.

If you haven't made plans yet, consider celebrating the arrival of 2022 at the annual Rupert New Year's Eve Beet Drop.
