The Twin Falls Police department reported more than a dozen people have called reporting scams.

These scammers are posing as the IRS. They lead consumers into thinking they have back taxes that are owed and then ask for personal information to cover those expenses.

The scammers number will often appear as a local number on caller ID and sound very official.

If someone calls you claiming to be a company you owe money to, please remember the golden rule of scam calls...if they call you, don't give them any information. Ask who they are with, hang up and call the company that they claim to be with. If you feel extremely threatened call police’s non-emergency number,208-735-4357.

The IRS does not collect personal information over the phone.

If you think you owe back taxes, the Attorney General’s office recommends contacting the agency directly. The IRS Taxpayer Assistance Office can be reached at 800-829-1040, while the state Tax Commission can be reached at 800-972-7660.
