This spring is shaping up to be another season of supplemental levy elections for area schools.  The Buhl School District announced last week of its intentions of asking voters for over a half million dollars to keep the schools running.  This week the Hansen School District announced it will also hold a supplemental levy election on May 17th for $190,000 dollars.  If approved, the money will be used for salaries and operating expenses for the coming year.  This election follows on the heels of a failed attempt at a two-year, $300,000 supplemental levy election last year.  As a result of that failure, Hansen School District officials say they had to eliminate five teaching positions, reduce teacher salaries by over seven percent and cut ten school days from the calendar.  Also, an elementary school principal position was not filled.  They say if this attempt fails they will have to eliminate three more teaching positions.
