Should Trump Kowtow to China? (Opinion)
Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain wanted to shut up Winston Churchill. Baldwin and Chamberlain believed Churchill was antagonizing the Germans by shouting Hitler was dangerous.
I’m very wary of a country demanding we kowtow as it plunders our defense secrets, steals our technology and violates copyrights and patents.
The common belief among Britain’s ruling class during the 1930s was the Nazis were a natural reaction to a peace too harsh at the end of the Great War. Hitler was viewed as a nationalist who had his country efficiently on the move. Many historians now suggest some very important men in His Majesty’s Government sympathized with fascists.
Churchill was vilified in Parliament and media. It was said he was unstable. Efforts were made to marginalize him and there were demands he be silenced. He didn’t have Twitter but the men known as his country’s “Press Lords” for the most part joined in the censorship.
When war finally came, the country was unprepared. As the clouds gathered, Chamberlain whined to his eventual successor Britain wasn’t ready. Churchill replied war doesn’t wait for anyone to prepare.
I’m not sure the USA is on a collision course with China, however. The Chinese are far more dangerous people than the Russians. Liberals in government and in media scream about Vladimir Putin and then scream even more when Donald Trump speaks to the leader of Taiwan. Trump obviously isn’t Churchill, but the whiners are modern versions of Baldwin and Chamberlain. The United States government isn’t in the business of tiptoeing around the Chinese or any other nation of savages. Which is an apt description for the ruthless people who govern the world’s newest power. None dare speak the truth!
Trump appears to have no desire to play the role of planetary policeman, but I’m very wary of a country demanding we kowtow as it plunders our defense secrets, steals our technology and violates copyrights and patents. And, now it claims the Pacific Ocean is a private lake. And again, Trump is portrayed as the bad guy?
