TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – This evening will be the last band concert conducted by Dennis Bortz at Twin Falls High School. The career music instructor will retire at the end of the school year. Today’s concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Roper Auditorium.

Bortz has been the school’s band teacher for the past seven years, but his employment with the Twin Falls School District stretches back 32 years, according to information from the district. He started teaching band at O’Leary in 1984, but also instructed girls’ choir at the high school before moving to the school full time.

During the course of his career he’s been able to help students appreciate music, and in turn they’ve helped him find richer meaning as a teacher.

“One of the joys of teaching is watching the progress students make as they develop musically,” he said in the news release. “Teaching at the high school has allowed me this opportunity as I’ve worked with students for seven years.

“I truly believe music is a ‘lifetime sport’ and I feel privileged to be part of their journey in this area of life. My life is richer because of my involvement with all these young musicians throughout my career.”

If you’d like to help celebrate the career and retirement of Bortz, as well as the talents of his students, tickets for tonight’s concert are $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors, and children 5 and under get in free. Also, TFHS and O’Leary Middle School students are free with their activity card.
